Briefly describe your career (teaching or otherwise) to date.

I have been teaching for sixteen years so far. I spent three years teaching Science and Technology and Year One at a private boys school in Sydney, Australia before moving to Tanzania and training Tanzanian primary school teachers for eight years. Upon returning to Australia I taught Year Four at two different primary schools near Sydney as well as taking specialist Science and Technology classes.

Why did you choose teaching as a career and what do you try to instil in your pupils?

Whilst I was at school I had some very good teachers who inspired me to go into the profession. I liked the idea that each day would be different, bringing new and fresh challenges. When I started Kindergarten I went home and taught my younger brother all that I had learned so I think I was destined to be a teacher from a young age! I enjoy working with children, and learning from them as well as seeing them grow and learn makes my heart happy. I believe that a good education is extremely important and can bring about lasting change to the world.

Apart from your classroom teaching role, what else do you get involved with at the school?

I am looking forward to running an afternoon club and enjoy coaching sport, with soccer (football) being a passion of mine.

Who or what inspires you?

Nature inspires me, I enjoy being in nature and seeing all of the intricate ways in which things work together. People who work to make a difference in the world also inspire me - Mother Teresa, Catherine Hamlin and Bob Frisken to name a few. I enjoy reading biographies of inspiring people.

Tell us something that not a lot of people know about you.

When I first arrived in Tanzania in 2010 I bought a motorbike and rode it everywhere, it was a lot of fun but now that I have a family I would think twice before riding a motorbike around town again!
