School French Teacher

Hillary Nyabenda

Where have you worked before joining Kennedy House?

I have taught in two different schools. I spent two years teaching French in a college in Morogoro, Tanzania, two years in primary school in Arusha, Tanzania.

Why did you choose teaching as a career and what do you try to instill in your pupils?

Teaching is a noble, exciting and demanding career. Since I have a passion for teaching I try to instill honesty, integrity, love for learning, hard work, curiosity, being responsible and self- esteem in the pupils.

Apart from your teaching role, what else do you get involved with at the school?

I like getting involved with sports especially physical exercises, football and running.

In your opinion, what makes Kennedy House special?

It has a nice and calm environment, the availability of good teaching materials and infrastructures, high discipline awareness, kind and friendly staff, Time for classes and sports. Kennedy house is a better and unique school for children to acquire knowledge and skills.

Who or what inspires you?

Books like “Other People’s Children: Cultural conflict in the classroom” by Lisa Delpit and my friend teachers from both Africa and Europe who teach a second language. (French or English)

Tell us something that not a lot of people know about you.

I learnt swimming and karate for a certain time and I did not continue due to the lack of teachers. I would like to learn swimming again until I become good enough at it.
